Montessori Philosophy

Montessori education is based on the theory of Italian physician, Maria Montessori (1870-1952). Dr. Montessori observed that a child’s mind was like a sponge, absorbing knowledge from everything around him/her. From this observation, she developed a theory of education based on the child’s inner desire to explore and learn about the world around him/her.
She believed that the child was in the process of constructing himself/herself. She also believed that children learn best when they work in a purposeful manner using materials which progress from the concrete to the abstract.
Montessori education provides an outstanding preparation for the child's next educational step.
At the Montessori Center for Learning we follow Dr. Montessori’s philosophy of education, encouraging the growth and education of the whole child.
