Montessori Philosophy
|
- Montessori education is based on the theory of Italian physician,
Maria Montessori (1870-1952). Dr. Montessori observed that a child’s mind
was like a sponge, absorbing knowledge from everything around him/her.
From this observation, she developed a theory of education based on the child’s
inner desire to explore and learn about the world around him/her.
She believed that the child was in the process of constructing himself/herself.
She also believed that children learn best when they work in a purposeful
manner using materials which progress from the concrete to the abstract.
- Montessori education provides an outstanding preparation for the child's next educational step.
- At the Montessori Center for Learning we follow Dr. Montessori’s
philosophy of education, encouraging the growth and education of the whole
child.
