Major Areas of the Classrooms

Practical Life Area
  • This is the basis for the entire Montessori Classroom.
  • It encourages the child to refine his/her movements.
  • It fosters independence, coordination, a sense of order and concentration.

Sensorial Area
  • In this area, the child learns through the development of his/her senses.
  • The child learns to make comparisons and to distinguish differences in:
    • Color
    • Size
    • Shape
    • Sounds
Math Area
  • Materials foster:
    • Number recognition
    • The concept of 1:1 correspondence
    • Addition, telling time, and place value (in the Montessori II Classroom)
