Welcome

Welcome to the Montessori Center for Learning Web site.  We hope you enjoy your Internet visit and that you will consider visiting us in person.

playground At the Montessori Center for Learning our primary goal is to help each child discover that school is fun, and to create in the child a love of learning that will last forever. We encourage the growth and education of the whole child, where respect and courtesy are as important as reading and math skills.

The Montessori Center for Learning , established in 1978, is a small family-oriented school whose students range in age from 2½ - 5 years old. Our school is located on the beautiful grounds of the First Presbyterian Church at 292 West Main Street in Newark, DE. Students come to us from Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania. We understand that our parents entrust their children to us every school day and we take that responsibility very seriously.

Each Child is Unique

drawing Your child is like no other child who has come to us before, and is unlike any child who will come to us in the future. At the Montessori Center for Learning children develop at their own rate. Through the teacher’s belief in the child’s goodness and potential, and the child’s natural desire to learn, children become independent, self-motivated, self-disciplined, and confident.

A Peaceful Place to Learn and Make Friends

At the Montessori Center for Learning we carefully prepare the environment to motivate our children. Our beautiful materials catch their curious minds, and through hands-on activities, they discover the joy of learning. They build, step by step, on their successes and look to the next challenge with eagerness. The materials encourage self-care, sensory awareness, reading, writing, math, science, and geography skills. Art materials, music and movement are also a part of the curriculum.

amigos Moving through the day, either working by themselves or with a friend, the children develop a sense of caring and respect for each other and their environment. Friendships are built as the children cooperate, help, and encourage each other.

The Montessori Center for Learning is accredited by the Nursery and Kindergarten Association of Delaware (NKAD). In their recent evaluation of the Montessori Center for Learning, NKAD reported:

"It was a wonderful experience to witness an outstanding program that evidences
academics, respect, and growth of the individual as a whole. The interaction was
respectful and caring and representative of a community itself."
